The Old Egbertian Association was founded back in 1927 and went from strength to strength until 1939, when the Second World War saw most members serving their country in one way or another. In 1946 as members returned to civilian life the Association was reactivated, and together with the Old Egbertian Football Club, provided plenty of opportunity for former pupils of the College to meet socially and ‘sup the odd ale’, and whilst a ‘Club House’ was on the agenda in those days it unfortunately never came to fruition. However with the closure of the College in 1970 a focal point was lost and the Association eventually became moribund leaving the Football Club as the only visible presence of the College and it’s former pupils.

In 1998 a number of former pupils had the bright idea of testing the water as regards reactivating the Association once again. Contact was also renewed with the Old Egbertian Football Club and an inaugural meeting was held at which the decision was made to reactivate the Association in order to renew and develop contact between former pupils of the College and the Football Club.

The Association is independent of the Football Club. However the Football Club is very close to the heart of a number of members of the Association who played football regularly for the Club in their ‘younger days’. Therefore a close bond still exists between the Association and the Football Club and the Association will be there to support the Football Club, financially or otherwise, as and when the need arises and provided the Committee sees such support is justified.

After a gap of some 30 years the reactivated Association has in excess of 100 paid up members and a further 100 or so contacts.  THE COMITTEE has met regularly on a bi-monthly basis and organised a variety of social events and will continue doing so, as social events are the main means of contact for members, although our Newsletters have received very favourable comment, and articles from members  together with photographs are always welcome.

How can you help? The continuing success of the Association depends on the response and support of it’s members. The Committee are always pleased to consider ‘new ideas’, will do all in their power to ensure their success, but it is really up to members to tell them what they want and support them.

We need you to pass the word around, spread the net far and wide amongst your old school friends, tell them about the Association and encourage them to join. If every member made a conscious effort to recruit one former pupil it would be great, however two would be fantastic, so get moving and see what you can do.

The annual subscription is £10 which should be sent, along with details of any former pupils that we can contact, to the Membership Secretary - Mike Fitzgerald, 2 Mountnessing Lane, Doddinghurst, Essex CM15 OTS – Tel.   01277 823309 email  mike@brentchase.freeserve.co.uk
